In 2004 : Canadians sent more than 700 million person-to-person text messages, doubling the previous year's volume of 350 million. It was about 83 million text messages per month - that was more than 2.7 million text messages each day. What's more, the number of people using text messaging continues to grow month over month, as does the number of messages sent (CWTA). 63% of Canadians between the ages of 15 and 69 own a mobile phone, up 7% from 2003. 49% of Canadian youth use text messaging on a weekly basis (Ericsson Canada, based on a survey of 2000 people from 10 provinces ).
Since 2006, Text Messaging has become more and more popular: Canadians sent more than 4.3 billion person-to-person text messages in 2006, more than doubling the previous year's volume of 1.5 billion. Canadians now send over 946.7 million text messages per month - that's more than 31.5 million text messages each day.
